- Twitter’s branching into the wine business. Their label, Fledgling, will be available in 2010, and 25% of their revenue will be donated to a nonprofit promoting child literacy in California. Social media, wine, books, good causes–so many of my favorite things, all in one place.
- When was the last time you thought about your organization’s presence on Wikipedia? Sometimes overlooked in the buzz about effective social media tools for nonprofits, Wikipedia can be a great asset–especially when it comes search engine positioning. (Be sure to follow the rules when setting up or editing an article, or it may be taken down.)
- Has your organization ever managed an event on Facebook? Here’s an example of a nonprofit that did so to great effect. Now that you’re inspired, Mashable just produced a how-to guide for setting up your own events on Facebook, so you can get started right away.
- There’s been a kerfuffle lately about microlending website Kiva.org–specifically, about the transparency (or lack thereof) around how the organization actually make loans. It’s raised interesting questions about donor motivation, the balance between effective practices and donor choice, the role of storytelling, and the value of transparency. What do you think?
