Just in case you haven’t heard yet (from the predictable cacophony of complaints), Facebook announced some major changes last week. Individuals’ profiles are becoming “Timelines”, users no longer have to “like” your organization’s page to interact with it, and Mark Zuckerberg’s running for president (alright, I made up that last one just to see if you were paying attention). It’s not yet clear how (or whether) organizations’ pages will be affected, but the way your nonprofit engages people through its page sure will–as John Haydon and Joe Waters both explain.
If getting used to a new Facebook (again) wasn’t enough for you, maybe you’d like to consider developing a text-messaging strategy for your organization? New data from the Pew Internet and American Life Project shows that 73 percent of adult cell phone users send and receive text messages and 31 percent of them prefer texting to talking on the phone.
