Shape the 17NTC agenda—Vote Today!

And just like that, it is time to start thinking about the 2017 Nonprofit Technology Conference (17NTC), taking place next March in Washington, DC. As a long-time member of NTEN, and now as its board chair, it really is one of my favorite times of the year. To shape the agenda, NTEN invites the community—nonprofiteers and members like you—to weigh in with a round of public voting on the sessions that have been submitted. You are invited to go through all 589 session ideas, sort by topic, or hey, do us a solid and vote for the two sessions we pitched.

So please send me and Sarah to our Nation’s Capitol and vote for these two workshops by August 1.

Breaking down silos: Integrating marketing and fundraising departments

Pitched by Sarah Durham, CEO at Big Duck with Kivi Leroux-Miller, President at Nonprofit Marketing Guide.

More and more organizations are integrating their marketing departments with development, but what are the secrets to making the most of this collaboration? In this session, Sarah Durham, Big Duck, and Kivi Leroux-Miller, Nonprofit Marketing Guide, will explore what makes a successful communications team, and provide insight into how that success can benefit the entire organization—from producing donor-centered communications and recruiting participants to engaging your community and raising awareness. They will share findings from a nonprofit communications team success survey (TAKE THE SURVEY HERE!) that explores trends in the structure and relationship of communications teams today and provide new ways for you to think about how to measure and evolve your team. Together the group will explore how to support and grow your current team, what new qualifications you might look for when making your next hire, and how to break down departmental silos and barriers.

Getting supporters to love your organization through smart branding

Pitched by Farra Trompeter, Vice President at Big Duck, with Jazmyn Henry, Donor Relations and Communications Officer of International Planned Parenthood Federation/Western Hemisphere Region (IPPF/WHR), Michael Wogoman, Senior Manager, Annual Giving of Conservation International, Amy Sample Ward, CEO of NTEN

Almost every organization struggles with getting new supporters—donors, members, volunteers, or others—and keeping old ones. Luckily, both problems can be solved with smart communications. This session will introduce strategies for building a brand that supporters love, so they not only engage with your organization once, but do so repeatedly and ultimately encourage others to do so. You’ll hear about ways to clearly communicate with audiences so they better understand who they are supporting and why—and so they’re more likely to come back. Drawing from real-life examples, we’ll explore how you can make supporters connect with work being done thousands of miles away using creative tools like virtual reality. We’ll also discuss how stories, images, and diverse voices can help your supporters develop deep ties to your work. Finally, we’ll touch on ways to empower your supporters to raise money for you as the ultimate brand ambassadors.

Thanks for your support! Looking forward to seeing you at 17NTC in March in DC.
