Workshop

Developing visions, missions, and messages that will engage your audiences

Hosted by Big Duck

October 18, 2019 9:15 pm–October 18, 2019 4:30 pm

Simple, memorable ways to speak and write about your organization’s work are essential to achieving your mission. It starts with creating compelling vision and mission statements, typically rooted in your strategic plan and theory of change, and then developing clear key messages, boilerplate, and elevator pitch. These elements work together to ensure your audiences understand who you are, what you do, why it matters, and how they can get involved.

In this daylong workshop, Big Duck’s Farra Trompeter, Vice President, and Hannah Thomas, Strategist, will review how your vision and mission statements and messaging platform can be created to more effectively engage your audiences. We’ll also discuss what tools you’ll need to get these messaging elements to stick within your organization and among your participants, supporters, activists, partners, donors, and more.

Participants will review case studies and work in small teams to complete exercises and brainstorm how best to structure the story of your organization. By the end of the day, participants will leave with:

  • Updated vision and mission statements
  • Options for structuring key messages, boilerplate, and elevator pitch
  • An action plan for getting these messaging tools to take root
