Marissa Lea Gaston
As a strategist, Marissa marries her inherent creativity with a longtime passion for social justice. She loves applying an antiracism and DEI lens to provide impactful solutions for nonprofits.
Marissa earned a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications from Middle Tennessee State University in 2018, with concentrations in journalism, creative writing, and African American studies. Prior to joining Big Duck, Marissa worked as a communicator at the Georgia Innocence Project and Southern Poverty Law Center. During that time she was instrumental in driving new approaches and DEI efforts, including establishing an antiracist working group and organizing a staff union, respectively. Leading communications for nonprofits small and large organizations inspired Marissa to immerse herself in the world of brand strategy and design.
When she’s not at Big Duck, Marissa can be found in a bookstore, making playlists, waxing poetic about Black women rappers, or exploring Atlanta on her bike and roller skates.
