Mara Hughes

Mara uses her background in research and writing to help nonprofits learn how to engage their audiences better. She is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, and previously held positions as a high school English teacher and education researcher who studied how queer and transgender youth learn about gender, sexuality, sex, and relationships.
Mara has also worked in Medicare marketing for Independence Blue Cross and in subscriber engagement for The Philadelphia Inquirer. Today she uses her research skills to design audience and market research with the power to answer clients’ questions in vibrant detail.
Mara lives in West Philadelphia and has taught sociology and research methods at Rutgers New Brunswick and Temple University. She’s passionate about education access, sex education, Housing First policies, and labor unions. She’s always striving for a workplace with the energy, innovation, and unerring ethics of a classroom of tenth graders.
